Brewers writer Adam McCalvy posted this quote at MLB.com from owner Mark Attanasio:
"Ben is one of the premier pitchers in baseball, and we see what premier pitchers in baseball have been commanding -- which is astronomical numbers," Attanasio said. "I'm not going to speak for Ben, but it may be in his mindset to just see what he can do in free agency. He's certainly earned that right."
Sheets has given this organization his best effort over the years, despite his unlucky numerous injuries. But, I think this quote pretty much clarifies that they won't be giving Ben a new deal. It's incredibly risky to throw a ton of money at free agent pitchers these days, because they are getting such high numbers lately.
A guy with Sheets' injury history is just too much of a gamble for an organization like the Brewers. Even if he throws 200 innings in 2008, and wins 17 games, I still don't think the Brewers should committ the kind of money he'll get for a long-term deal.

I think you're right. If he'd just given the Brewers a couple of good, injury-free years! But he's as risky as they come, nearly as bad as some of the Cubs pitchers.
He did a nice job today, though.
he's no kerry wood or mark prior, he has had many more productive years than them. It's just his most recent contract that has been the most disappointing.
