In the last year before Fielder is arbitration eligible, the Brewers renewed his contract for $670,000. From his point of view he should have been bumped up more considering he was the youngest player ever to hit 50 home runs. Understandable. But sorry Prince it's not the Brewers fault. They paid you in line with their pay scale system that they keep consistent with everyone. One way for Prince to make more money is to sign an early extension that will make him a Brewer past 2011. He could have probably made around $6 million this year by doing that. Apparently though, Prince's agent Scott Boras is completely unwilling to even negotiate with the Brewers until he's eligible to make the big bucks.. It's probably a smart move, because the thinking is he'll gain more money when he's about to become a free agent, so he's trying to basically add to his value. That's all fine and dandy, but he should know it's his decision not to take more money now by signing an extension. Instead he's banking on being able to hit the big payday when his current deal is up.
The fact the Prince is unhappy, is somewhat understandable, but I don't blame the Brewers for doing what they are doing.. They are just treating him the same way the treat everyone else.
But, don't worry Prince, when you're abry eligible next year, you'll make $8 - $12 million per year. Ryan Howard's first year eligible is this year and he got $10 mil, so cheer up Prince.
Will this apparent unhappiness by Prince affect future contract negotiations? To be honest, I don't think it will even matter. Call me pessimistic, but I'm about 95% sure Prince will not be in a Brewer uni past 2011. My guess is Melvin knows that to, so they aren't pulling out all the stops now to try and create goodwill. The Brewers pennant run has to be in the next 3-4 years, because it will just be impossible to retain all their young talent.

i totally agree with what you said here.. but i SWEAR... maybe even from you.. that melvin was "focusing" on weeks, braun, and prince for the future.. i dont know if his future is so short-sighted that 4 years from now we will plunge into the dark ages.. sheets was the face of the brewers for how long.. if he leaves.. prince can easily fill that void.. if he hasnt already.. would be a sad day to lose the big fella...
as my thought randomly continues.. i believe LaPorta is taking some reps @ first...
