7 innings, only gave up 1 hit (a solo homer to Upton), and K'd 10 batters.
The hard-throwing righty averages 94.6 mph on his fastball, which he thew about 60% of the time last Thursday. He also throws a slider, which he averages at 87.6 mph, and a change at 86 mph. Then there's this... He threw 68 of 92 pitches for strikes. Impressive.
He's only been in the minors 2 years, but also recorded good stats down there. Many people in the Reds organization are just drooling over his potential. Dusty Baker even likened his debut to that of Fernando Valenzuela's with the Dodgers in the 80s.
The bleacher report has put Cueto as one of the frontrunners for the Rookie of the Year in the N.L.
The Brewers will have to attack him tomorrow. He throws a lot of strikes, and they need to get on him early to rattle the confidence he's no doubt carrying over from his debut. Another interesting note: Francisco Cordero has taken to mentoring the young fellow Dominican. It looks to be a tough matchup for Suppan and the Brewers tomorrow evening.
